Travis -- On Hold For Adoption For Now

Meet Travis!

January 26,2024 Update -

For now, Travis is being taken off of the adoption list so I can work with him on socialization skills.  I am hoping by next summer or fall (or sooner!) he will be able to be added back onto the list, but please feel free to continue about this sweet boy.

In January of 2019, Travis came into my yard as a feral kitten with his Mom and sister, Sophie. Both kittens were so tiny they could fit in the palm of my hand, but they survived the winter and came to my yard every day for food. At about 4 - 5 months, I was able to trap them, and they were spayed/neutered and brought back to my yard.

From the beginning, Travis was a timid, gentle soul. Living in a colony with adult male cats can be a rough existence for a young male, but instead of making him aggressive, it tended to make him more quiet. In the process, it made him become a master of hiding and a champion tree climber.

Being shy by nature, it took a long time to earn his trust, but once that happened, Travis allowed himself to come into my home. He has learned to love the security and safety a house provides, and while at times he is cautious about accepting affection, when it's on his terms, he becomes a huge love bug, and will follow me everywhere. He also loves to chat, and when his in the right mood, he will tell you all about his day.

Learning to play was a huge step for Travis, and that is when his personality just shines. He LOVES chasing cat toys, playing with feather wands, and he is all about bounding up the cat tree at top speed and finding the highest spot to rest. Like so many feral animals, their true nature and personality is there -- it just takes the right environment -- a safe and loving environment -- to come through.

Travis loves the couch, and while he has always been an outdoor boy all of his life, the potential for him adapting to a loving home is huge. As with other cats who have had a late start to human interaction and affection, he needs the right person or family to give him love, patience, and maybe some personal space at first, to let his beautiful, loving personality shine through.

Travis has never been around children or dogs, so I would recommend that he be adopted by a family with adults or older children, and I would strongly recommend he be an only pet. He is a good, gentle boy, and given the chance, he will prove to be a wonderful, funny, and delightfully playful addition to any family.

If you are interested in learning more about Travis and may be looking to adopt him, please send me a note through the "Contact" page.  I will be happy to answer your questions and e-mail you an adoption application.
